Spending the day with my Vivi project and considering the differences between ‘Fine Art’ vs. ‘Illustrative Art’…. hmmm…. I suppose illustration is meant to be didactic in someway, while fine art is thought to be more about self-expression…. Take a look at Jessie Wilcox Smith’s work … lots of self-expression there… so evocative! So much for those definitions.

When I first started the Vivi project, I worried that working on children’s book illustrations would take away from precious time spent working on portraiture and figurative art, what I’ve learned is that they inform each other. That working on a children’s book has provided so many lessons in composition and flow and page turning momentum. So glad I started down this path and am looking forward to seeing where it will lead me.
